critical creative reflection question

The technology I incorporated throughout this process was my phone camera and new computer programs, for example, Indesign and publisher. My partner and I used my phone camera simply because my phone is newer. I took most of the photos in square mode and some in portrait mode this allowed us to get a better quality photo and a closer look at the dishes. Thankfully our photos came out good and we didn't need to do any extra editing. When we first started making the magazine we used publisher but than we realized the Indesign made everything have a more professional look.

creative critical reflection question

In the beginning of the project I did not know anything about the program Indesign, how to create a two page spread, or how to use different features on my phone when I needed to take pictures for mu magazine. As time went on during the time of class we learned how to use Indesign and how to do all the things I didn't know how to do before. when it came to the picture taking I took for my magazine my partner and I discovered different types or edits we could use. As for time management and scheduling luckily my partner Delhi and I are friends and neither one of use had a hard time finding time to create our magazine.

creative critical reflection question

2. How my magazine will be engaging with the audience will be through social media and eventually creating and Ad for advertisement. Our target audience is food fanatics that enjoy our magazine and the content within it. The age range that we are seeking is between the ages of 25 and up. We plan to broaden our audience by making a social media accounts like Instagram, Facebook, ect. This page will have pictures of different dishes that correlate. We also will be letting our audience know when a certain issue is coming out. Some magazines we used as references were were Food & Wine, Bon Appetite, and Simply Southern. All these magazines had similar target audiences in which my magazine is also aiming for and they give us an opportunity to see how these magazines reach out to their viewers. We plan to distribute our magazine digitally, we would like to use the app called Magzter Newsstand. This app will allow us to have our magazine on their app and allows for readers to purchase magazines in the app.

creative critical reflection question

1. In my magazine I used some conventional aspects that I've seen used in other magazines. For example on my front cover the title of my magazine is bold, I have my subheadings underneath. This is common in food magazines. For my front cover I also did some text box's about the different articles being shown in my magazine. Having this characteristic in my magazine shows the involvement of some conventions that are utilized in a food magazine.  In my articles the layout I proceeded to use is conventional for a food magazine. The list of ingredients and the recipes that were displayed for the readers to see clearly and have no confusion on the directions. I also gave a brief explanations on why I enjoyed making the festive snacks for the holidays. Lastly, another convention I used was the angle in which the photos were taken. In many related magazines when a picture of the dish is displayed there are close up shots, side shots, before and after, and above the dish shot. Using the research from previous assignments I managed to use the techniques in my own magazine. I did this because it would allow the reader to see how the dish is supposed to look like and try to give a visual guideline.

3rd quarter revisions

I used the program InDesign for all my revisions. InDesign allowed me to use new techniques and my photos came out clearer and more focused. The fonts I used are different in the table of content the article but the title font stayed the same. I chose a different font because I wanted to make the article a little more fun.I decided to change my cover picture and change the fonts for my subtitles. I chose a different cover photo because I think this photo has better quality and I think that you can read the story previews on the page better. I changed the font to a more cursive due to it fitting better with the theme of my magazine. For my revised front cover I did a couple changes. Revised Table of contents

For my table of contents revision I used the program Indesign aswell. I added a picture to try and cover up some of the open white space. I also decided to changed the fonts to match the rest of the magazine and make everything even.

Use of Convention

My product uses convention by cutting the ingredients and step by step recipes as other food magazines would. The social groups that are represented are food  fanatics or people that are looking for new recipes during the holidays.

Marketing Plan

After reviewing marketing campaign from some other magazines my partner and I have formulated a marketing plan for our magazine. We plan on making an ad to put online to get our company name out in the world. We also have been discussing on making a digital email but, we feel that our magazine email ad might go into peoples junk or spam pile.

Target Audience

The magazine I am researching is Bon Appetit. My magazine has the same target audience as this magazine because they are both food fanatics or upcoming cooks that are interested in looking creative meals or just to find inspiration. They marked their products by having a website, podcasts and, they have a facebook page. When clicking on their website a pop-up appears to enter your email so you can receive promotions and notifications for their magazine. The podcast talks about the dishes they are making and the Facebook is used to make announcements of events and magazines they promote. The persuasive elements they are using makes their audience feel welcome by their videos and their facebook page simply looks appealing and clean.

The magazine I researched is from Food & Wine. Our target audience are similar be trying to bring individuals that are interested in food and how to make those recipes. How Food & Wine markets their magazine is through their website and their social media outlets. Their persuasive strategies are appealing to the public eye and wants. They make their pictures look high quality and good enough to want to eat the food and or make the dish. The media outlets they use is Instagram and Twitter.

Target Audience

The first magazine I am researching is Southern Living. Their magazine is focused on food and how to make certain dishes. Our audiences are very similar because we both are targeting people that are interested in food and learning how to cook easy meals/ snacks. How they market their product is by allowing the audience to following to their magazine and subscribing to their magazines. They also have a social media page where their audience can see more food recipes from the magazines, this way you don't have to keep a whole magazine or make a cook book they are all easily accessed online.

Indesign class activity

Today in class we utilized adobe indesign to lay out our 2 page spread. When I first began using indesign I was very overwhelmed because I don't really know how to use technical things. Once I started to really look and use indesign I really liked it. I plan on utilizing indesign for my revisions for 3rd quarter.
